The Provincial Government of Bohol, through the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), celebrated excellence in marine conservation and coastal law enforcement during an awarding ceremony recognizing the Most Outstanding Marine Protected Area (MPA) and the Most Outstanding Coastal Law Enforcement Council (CLEC) for 2024.

The event underscored Bohol’s commitment to marine protection and conservation as a UNESCO Global Geopark. Protecting the province’s coastal and marine ecosystems is crucial not only for food security, livelihood, and tourism but also for biodiversity preservation and climate resilience.

BPEMO Head Jovencia Ganub warmly welcomed guests, while Ma. Villa Pelindingue, head of BPEMO’s CRM Division, acknowledged the participants. Representing Governor Erico Aristotle “Aris” C. Aumentado, Board Member Jamie Aumentado-Villamor, Chairperson of the Committee on Natural Resources & Environmental Protection, delivered an inspirational message.

Governor Aumentado extended his gratitude to local government units, enforcement agencies, and communities for their dedication to marine conservation, stating:

“These efforts not only preserve our rich biodiversity but also set an inspiring standard of excellence. Your work benefits not only your communities but the entire province of Bohol.”

Most Outstanding CRM Officer: Ms. Ginalyn B. Pala, LGU Bien Unido
Most Outstanding Coastal Law Enforcement Council (CLEC):

Best Performing CLEC Cluster: CLEC Cluster 4 (Bien Unido, Getafe, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Talibon, Trinidad)
Best Performing Municipal CLEC Team: LGU of Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Bohol
Most Outstanding Fish Warden: Mr. Dondon Ryan A. Barcial, LGU Bien Unido
Most Outstanding Police Environment Desk Officer: Police Chief Master Sergeant Fernando C. Lapera, Talibon Police Station
Most Outstanding Chief of Police: Police Captain Ernesto P. Sagarino, Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Police Station

During the morning session, CLEC clusters presented their 2024 accomplishments at the CLEC General Assembly, highlighting the role of collaborative enforcement in protecting marine resources. Financial assistance of ₱500,000 was also awarded to CLEC Clusters 3 and 4 for their compliance with documentation requirements.

In closing, Mayor Fernando Estavilla, LMP President, shared best practices from Pres. Carlos P. Garcia (Isla de Pitogo), which is now 95% free from illegal fishing due to strengthened marine protection measures.

This celebration of excellence reflects Bohol’s leadership in marine conservation and reinforces its global commitment as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
