In a move to further enhance the management and operations of the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark, Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado has issued Memorandum 2024-1370, designating Joanne M. Pinat, the Senior Tourism Operations Officer and the Officer-in-Charge of the Bohol Provincial Tourism Office, as the Program Manager for the Geopark. The memorandum, signed on August 7, 2024, underscores the commitment of the provincial government to ensure the Geopark’s continued success and global recognition.
Pinat’s designation aims to streamline the coordination of geopark-related activities and reinforce collaboration among various stakeholders involved in the program. The memorandum outlines her responsibilities, which include overseeing the formulation and updating of management, strategic, and operational plans, ensuring that these align with the overarching goals of the Geopark.
As Program Manager, Pinat is tasked with providing regular updates and reports to the Bohol Island Geopark Management Council (BGMC), the body responsible for steering the Geopark’s direction. Moreover, Pinat’s role involves advocacy and public engagement efforts, aimed at raising awareness and support for the Geopark both locally and globally. The memorandum also emphasizes the importance of establishing strong reporting and evaluation mechanisms to monitor progress and ensure that all activities are in line with the Geopark’s objectives.
The Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark, renowned for its geological heritage, cultural significance, and sustainable development initiatives, continues to be a key focus of the provincial government’s tourism and conservation efforts. The designation of a dedicated Program Manager is expected to further solidify its commitment to become a model of environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism in the country. (PIMO/ML)
