Active participation of local communities and indigenous peoples play a vital role in the success of a UNESCO Global Geopark. To achieve this, the Bohol Island Aspiring Global Geopark team engaged its relationship building with the Eskaya Tribe on February 9, 2021 in Brgy. Taytay, Duero. The initial talk included introduction of the geopark project, the important role of the indigenous communities to the geosites, likewise, the preservation of their indigenous knowledge including traditional know-hows, beliefs, and lifestyles. The team also had an opportunity to listen to the Eskaya’s Taytay Chieftain Hilario Galambao as he shared a brief history and some anecdotes about their tribe. Truly, the uniqueness and richness of their culture need to be shared not just to the Boholanos but also to the Filipinos and the rest of the world. The day ended with a quick visit to their museum and a large cave located nearby.
