Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark joined discussions on sustainable development and geopark management.

The Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark participated in the International Seminar on Aspiring Sarawak Delta UNESCO Global Geopark, held at the Riverside Majestic Hotel Puteri Wing in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, on October 7 and 8, 2024. The event, which gathered global geopark representatives and stakeholders, served as a platform to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and explore best practices on how geoparks can contribute to sustainable development goals (SDGs).

With a focus on balancing conservation efforts, economic development, and community well-being, the seminar highlighted the critical role that geoparks play in preserving geological heritage and promoting sustainable tourism. The two-day event provided a venue for national and international geoparks to network, forge partnerships, and enhance the effectiveness of their initiatives.

Joanne M. Pinat, Program Manager of the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark, took center stage with a presentation entitled “Eco-Cultural Initiatives and Management Practices of Bohol Island Geopark: Fostering Environmental Stewardship and Cultural Preservation.”
