The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), through the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), conducted a tree planting activity in Brgy. San Vicente, Ubay, on July 14, 2023, as part of the Sandugo 2023 celebration under the ‘Atiman’ stream.

32 groups, composed of National Agencies, the academe, non-government organizations, business corporations, and people’s associations, planted 2000 tree seedlings at the old quarry site in San Vicente, which aimed to reforest the area and replace previously planted invasive, foreign species with native ones. 20 native types of seedlings were used during the activity, grown by BPEMO at the Bohol Biodiversity Center in Bilar.

After the planting, participants got together for fellowship, with performances ranging from singing to ‘pagbabalak’, performed by representatives of each group. This activity was under Governor Aris Aumentado’s Trees for Unity Campaign, which aims to mobilize Boholanos to participate in civic action, such as tree planting.

As a UNESCO-designated Global Geopark, the island province aims to create projects and activities in line with the Strategic Change Agenda on Environmental Sustainability to protect Bohol’s natural resources through conservation and regenerative efforts for the environment.
